Today, a couple months after the release of the wildly popular Battlefield: Bad Company for the PS3 and Xbox 360, DICE, the developers of the game, are releasing the first content pack. The download contains small engine updates, such as lighting and other visual improvements, along with Conquest mode. Conquest mode brings the gamemode that made Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 to the top to consoles. With multiple capture points scattered across large maps, teams battle to drain the other teams’ points before they lose their own. Here’s a video created by DICE to show you about it:
To download the content pack, go to either the Xbox Marketplace or the PS3 store.

Battlefield: Bad Company sold roughly 330,000 in its first week of sales, an impressive number. DICE, the developer of the game, isn’t going to stop there though. At the GDC (Game Developers Conference) Paris, DICE executive producer Ben Cousins announced that an astounding 4 Battlefield games are currently in development, with only one of them publicly known. Battlefield Heroes is set to release as a F2P (free to play) game for the PC later this year. Dice is says that they will be releasing a “traditional core game” for consoles. The third is a game to be built with Neowiz, a company that builds games for the Korean market. The 4th game is unannounced, but a possible Battlefield 3 info leak could be a hint of the fourth game.
DICE has a lot coming up the near future, and you better believe that The Pxl Lab is going to be covering it all.

EA isn’t very well known for their customer support. It looks like they might be attempting to improve their image by releasing a patch for a game that only has hardcore players left, one that admittedly has some great new features. Some of the better ones are:
- 2 new maps – Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle by The Sir. Community and Jason Brice, respectively.
- Widescreen support.
- Added “No Vehicles” mode.
- Added “Conquest Assault” mode.
- Added volume control for Commander, as requested by the eSports community.
- A better cheating prevention system.
I haven’t played 2142 for a few months now, but this patch may just make me pull out my CD to play it a bit more. I am also a bit biased in that I am a member of The Sir. Community, but anybody who has played Wake Island 1942/2007 will know that the 2142 iteration of this map will likely become one of the most played maps online. Now, for the download links.

Battlefield Heroes, the new free-to-play game created by EA, has just recently hit beta stages, with much fanfare from Battlefield (and Team Fortress 2 players) alike. The beta announcement was initially made by Broken Eggs Media, who oversee the very popular Battlefield Podcast.

Concerning the game itself, it looks to be a cartoon shooter with little to no relations to the actual Battlefield series, instead following in the footsteps the widely popular Team Fortress 2. Unlike TF2, however, EA is offering up Heroes for FREE, hoping that micro transactions will pay for the costs of making and marketing the game. Another oddity about the game is that you can only start the game by going to the Heroes website and clicking a “Play Now!” button. EA is hoping to make the site a sort-of social area by showing off scoreboards, updates, etc.
