Battlefield Heroes, the new free-to-play game created by EA, has just recently hit beta stages, with much fanfare from Battlefield (and Team Fortress 2 players) alike. The beta announcement was initially made by Broken Eggs Media, who oversee the very popular Battlefield Podcast.

Concerning the game itself, it looks to be a cartoon shooter with little to no relations to the actual Battlefield series, instead following in the footsteps the widely popular Team Fortress 2. Unlike TF2, however, EA is offering up Heroes for FREE, hoping that micro transactions will pay for the costs of making and marketing the game. Another oddity about the game is that you can only start the game by going to the Heroes website and clicking a “Play Now!” button. EA is hoping to make the site a sort-of social area by showing off scoreboards, updates, etc.

DExposE2 for Windows is a great app, even it it’s just a copycat. Actually, I’m not giving it enough credit, this things copies and then improves on the original. For those of you who don’t know what Mac’s Expose does, its pretty simple: Press a key and all of the windows open make themselves smaller so that you can see all of them at once, then click on a window you want to use. There is also another key you can press to hide all of the windows open on the side of the screen, giving you instant desktop access. DExposE2 adds these functions to Windows (XP and Vista), giving it multi-monitor support, mouse-over hot corners, and closing windows.

Launchy 2 is simple; press Alt+Space, and an unobtrusive window comes up. Begin typing in what you are trying to find, be that a program, IE or Firefox bookmark, the square root of 625, or that one picture buried deep within 10 folders of organization. Launchy begins finding as you type, and you can limit it to only find certain files in certain folders (as is the default setting). After you hit Enter, the program goes back to playing your copy of Team Fortress 2 that it was having a good time with before you interrupted it. Version 2 of Launchy comes with a slew of skins (the skin in the picture is known as DefaultUbuntu, which is what I use), and their are box full of plugins that you can download and use. Even though the title may be confusing to some, the idea is simple. If your computer is trying to run a process (program/application) that is stealing a ton of your computer’s memory, then Process Tamer tells the program to watch it, or you (the user) is going to get mad and break something. For example, I open up Internet Explorer, and gasp!, my computer gets all slow because IE is stealing of my computer’s resources to make it run. Insert Process Tamer, and IE realizes its bad behavior and lets the rest of the computer take some juice.
I have been using this program for a couple days now, and I can actually feel a difference in my computer speed, whenever Firefox trys to eat my computer alive, PT slows it down and the computer continues running normally. Plus, it’s free (like I’ve reviewed shareware?), so why not give it a try? If you don’t feel like visiting the homepage for this program, here is a direct download link.
