Crayon Physics Deluxe Offers More Than Expected

crayondemoCrayon Physics Deluxe is a unique game that has garnered a lot of attention in the past year. It began as another humble game posted on the Kloonigames blog, and from there it grew into the best game of the year at the Independent Games Festival (also on display were games like World of Goo and Desktop Tower Defense).

In CPD, you can play about 80 levels in singleplayer, most of which are really fun and open to a wide variety of solutions. In fact, it’s the openness of the game that really strikes me. While someone might solve a level by drawing random stuff, someone else might draw a weird drawbridge. The game’s replayability is what makes it so great. Also included in the game is a level editor, which will further promote the sandbox style of gameplay that abounds in this game. The demo will draw people in, and the low $19.95 price tag will attract customers without a big budget looking for a great game.

If you like Crayon Physics Deluxe, you’ll also love games like Fantastic Contraption and Line Rider.

Black Isle’s Fallout 3 Demo

Van Buren” by Black Isle would have been Fallout 3 if Interplay hadn’t closed down the Black Isle project in 2003. This is the tech demo that was leaked in 2007, which is freely available over on StrategyInformer. There’s not a great deal to it, but the very existence of an alternate Fallout 3 makes for an interesting compare and contrast. Also, since Bethesda has said there isn’t going to be a demo for their Fallout 3 and it’s still a long way till October 28th, it’s worth a try.

You can check out 136 screenshots of Fallout 3, gameplay videos, and more over at the Different Pixel Blog.

The Worst Game Ever Sold In Stores

Some games were just never meant to be. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is one such game. Here is a quote from the game box:

You are able to race your modified Rig on one of 5 different tracks for the ultimate driving rush as you crush the competition and set a new track record!

The lack of tracks and features that this sentence (and game) is lacking is only made incredibly worse by running the game on the worst engine ever designed by man. Collision detection and realistic gravity are some of the things that never had the time to make it into the game. Here is a gameplay video, and be warned: It’s hilarious.

According to Metacritic, a website that collects reviews from multiple sources and adds their collective score together, Big Rigs is the worst rated game of time, scoring an 8 out of 100. The only reason you’ll even want to look into this game is for some of the funniest videos you’ll ever see on Youtube.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl – The Best in the Series?

ssbb circle of players

Overview of the Game:

The Super Smash Bros. series has gone though three games now, and the main question left to ask is, after a few months of playing, is Super Smash Bros. Brawl standing up to the legacy created by the original and Melee? Being a gamer, I have played the other games as well, and I have to say, the highlight of the series was Melee. It was one heck of a great game, with the least amount of flaws in the series. If you have played Brawl then you have probably asked yourself, “How many people do I truely see playing as characters such as Bowser, Princess Peach, Wario, Caption Falcon, or Jigglypuff?” The reasons behind people not playing as these characters is because of the lack of even game play between characters.

Battlefield 2142 Patch 1.5 Released

bf2142 iconEA isn’t very well known for their customer support. It looks like they might be attempting to improve their image by releasing a patch for a game that only has hardcore players left, one that admittedly has some great new features. Some of the better ones are:

  • 2 new maps – Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle by The Sir. Community and Jason Brice, respectively.
  • Widescreen support.
  • Added “No Vehicles” mode.
  • Added “Conquest Assault” mode.
  • Added volume control for Commander, as requested by the eSports community.
  • A better cheating prevention system.

I haven’t played 2142 for a few months now, but this patch may just make me pull out my CD to play it a bit more. I am also a bit biased in that I am a member of The Sir. Community, but anybody who has played Wake Island 1942/2007 will know that the 2142 iteration of this map will likely become one of the most played maps online. Now, for the download links.
