Folding@Home, an application made and applied by Stanford University, is an easy-to-install app for Windows or Mac (or PS3) that uses any spare memory on your computer to fold protein cells. That essentially means that after you’ve folded a certain set of cells (work units) the results are uploaded to Stanford to be used to solve why diseases in the body happen. Diseases like Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many Cancers are created because of incorrectly folded protein cells. The Folding application collects all this data from hundreds of thousands of computers to try and solve the mysteries of the diseases, and to eventually find cures. The great thing about using the program is that it only takes up spare memory on your computer, so you notice almost no drop in performance, or if you are worried about it you can set it to only run while your screensaver is running. So do the world a favor and help solve cure diseases that are in desperate need of a cure.
